Beginning Feb. 8, Mamawi Atosketan is offering a high school sewing class called Redesign, Recycle and Restore. The primary project in this class will involve creating an embellished and blinged jean jacket. As the theme of the class is to redesign, restore and recycle, we are kindly asking for materials that may be laying around someone’s house, rather than purchasing new materials.
We will be needing:
-used jean jackets, non stretch denim
-grommets
-used clothing with lace, trims or embroidery designs,
-buttons
-scrap trims, rick rack, lace, tassels, rhine stones
-used jeans
-stud rivets, pearl or gem rivets,
-fringe
-embroidery thread
-lace
-other embellishments or sewing notions
-beads or costume jewelry
-dresses or other clothing items with lace, trims or pictures that could be removed and reused
-embroidered patches
-used towels to practice other sewing techniques
Clothing or jean jackets with rips or stains will be perfect as mending and reusing supplies is the purpose of this class.
